We may need extra support and it can sometimes be our only option. But what if care settings were the kinds of places people wanted to move into? How would they be different?

EnVisAge is a Bealtaine-initiated collaboration that asks people to imagine starting again from scratch and building a new kind of care settings that people would be clamouring to get into.

Research with Mayo Arts Office and Inspiration Station is Phase One – an arts facilitator, using arts and theatre processes, asks older people what would make this ideal home. Phase Two brings together a select group of entrepreneurs, social developers, artists, designers, council employees, nurses, retirees and planners of all ages, who will meet in Castlebar for an intensive two days to consider this issue of ideal collective residential spaces.

The aim for these two days of imagining is not to create a policy or a code of practice but to change people’s hearts and minds about what a care setting could do. It is to expand the possibilities of how care homes can work and what part individuals can play in making change happen.

Contact Mayo Arts Office on 094 90 47558 or 094 90 47560 to find out more.

If you would like to contribute, have a story or comment please do so below or visit www.bealtaine.com.
